Monday Morning!

Well, I am home again. We finally made it back from San Antonio around 1am this morning. It was a nice trip and we got a lot accomplished toward the opening of the beauty school in September.

The weather is so nice here this morning. Cool and cloudy. Great weather to be working outside, but I have a mammogram scheduled for this afternoon so may not get any gardening done today. Meeting my Mom later to get a package ready to send to my sister in Belgium. Her birthday is coming up and wanted to get it in the mail. It won't reach her before her birthday, but then it is always fun to receive things when you least expect them.

Have a great day and do something fun.

Busy, Busy!!!

Since getting home from Washington DC, seems like I have been going nonstop. I have been working at my husband's office trying to get caught up on the work I have put off for the last couple of months.

I have been working in my very neglected garden in the early morning while it is cool to get it back in shape. Would like to plant some mums for the fall. I just love all the colors of fall...my favorite time of year. We received some good rain last night so it made it easier to pull the weeds. I have even cleaned my daughter's garden in front of her home and planted some plants. She bought a home about a year ago and hadn't thought about all the yard work involved. She didn't get the gardening gene..at least not yet...though I think someday she will see the pleasure of working in the garden.

I am headed to Austin and San Antonio this weekend with my husband and daughter. They are working on opening a new beauty school in San Antonio and needs some help moving things.

I did do a online retreat last weekend with my ebay group. We did "sewies". I did some different types of wool pincushions.
Others did needle keeps, needle punch and even quilt blocks. You can do the theme project or any project of your choice. It is fun to check in thru out the day and see discussions and photos of what's going on. It is a great group and I am privileged to be a part of it.

Well, guess I better go finish packing and get some embroidery projects together to work on during the drive. It is about a six hour drive, so hopefully I can get some things finished.

Have a great weekend and enjoy time with family and friends.

Home!!

Well, I made it home yesterday (Monday) without any delays. Yeah!! Jeff and Ashlee were glad so glad to see me, they took me to lunch at my favorite Mexican restaurant. It was goood! DC does not have Mexican food like we have here in Oklahoma.

Nick arrived in Munich, Germany this morning, according to the email I received, and was ready to start some sightseeing. Can't wait to see pictures.

My last day in DC was Sunday, so we spent the morning cleaning and getting packed. In the afternoon we took the metro to the American Indian Museum.
We checked out some of the exhibits and then ate a late lunch at the cafeteria. They had several choices and I had pulled pork empanadas with rice and beans and Nick had a shank of meat that he said was boar. He likes to try new things. As a child, he was never a picky eater.

After we left there, we walked over to the Capitol Botanical Gardens and took a leisurely stroll thru the gardens. It was hot, but the gardens were not crowded and I saw a lot of interesting plants; some I recognized and some I had never heard of before. We had a great afternoon and made some good memories.

We rode the bus back to his apartment and I finished packing. It was a great 12 days and I enjoyed spending time with Nick. Have plans to head back at Thanksgiving.

Well, I am trying to get back in the groove. I had planned to go to work today, but Ashlee had car trouble. By the time Jeff got it fixed, it was lunchtime. We ate lunch and headed to the office. Since it was early afternoon, I decided I couldn't really start any work this late (lol) so I went home and vowed to try again tomorrow.

Wishing everyone a great week.

Alas, almost time to go home!

Well, the last 10 days in DC with Nick have flown by, but I have enjoyed every minute. I have managed to get most everything unpacked and in its place. I have cleaned and recleaned several times. In my previous blog, I talked about the fire sprinkler problems. They started fixing the holes in the ceiling on Friday and said I needed to be out of the apartment while they did that so I was gone all Friday afternoon. Came back, no work done. Then said they would do it on Saturday; said we would be gone all day; got home around 8pm...a few holes patched but not finished. So I leave Monday to go back home and Nick leaves for Munich, Germany and won't be back until August 26. So who knows what will happen. Anyway, so much for that.

I have visited some neat places while here. Nick took me to St Michaels, Maryland last weekend. This was an awesome bridge we crossed to get there. It was so high in the air and really, really long. The town is by water, I think the Chesapeake River and it has antique shops and good eating places. We spent the day walking around looking at the shops. Ate at little restaurant that had awesome food.
Today, we toured George Washington's homeplace, Mount Vernon. It was so big. The house has been restored and the rooms are furnished like the house was in 1799. That was the year that George Washington died. My favorite part was the piazza..it covered the entire length of the house in back and has an awesome view of the Potomac River. We walked thru the gardens and saw the vault where he and Martha are buried. We went thru the museum on the grounds and learned a lot of great facts about his life.

We left Mount Vernon and headed to Alexandria, Virginia to visit old town.
I just love the colonial rowhouses. I like the big, tall windows and the front doors. They each have their own unique style and look so inviting. Some have small courtyards in front with all kinds of flowers and shrubs. We walked several blocks looking at houses and shops. Stopped and had frozen custard and then decided to head back to DC.

I have had a wonderful time here with my son, Nick , but I think it is probably time to head home. I think my husband and daughter might just miss me a little.

So, I hope everyone has a good rest of the weekend.

Washington DC

After a couple of delays at the airports, I made it to DC around midnight Wednesday, actually it was Thursday. Nick picked me up at the airport and we headed to his new apartment. He showed me around and we swapped ideas on what needed to be done and then he headed to bed. He had to go to work around 8:30am this morning.

So I have spent the day cleaning and unpacking boxes. A day before Nick was supposed to move in, the landlord found out that he had to put in sprinkler
systems in the building because the DC building codes had changed on existing building renovations. So he has holes in the ceiling and sheetrock dust everywhere.
I took 'before' pictures but haven't taken any 'after' pictures yet. Will probably start on the bedrooms tomorrow.

I plan on going to some museums and definitely the farmers market at Dupont Circle while I am here. May even look for some quilt shops or rughooking shops..who know what I will find. Just nice to be here.

So, getting ready to go to dinner...have a great weekend and will report back in a couple of days.

Another Busy Week!

Well, another week has gone by. Can't believe it is already August. The last seven months seemed to just fly by. Christmas will be here before we know it.

I have been working on a wool applique mat for Country Collections for the last week or so and I finally finished it this evening. Soooo glad!!!! It had a lot of pieces to cut out and I handstitched it rather than using my sewing machine.
Friday, July 31, my friend, Sandra and I drove to Purcell, OK to meet our friend, Ginger and visit the antique shops there. I found some treasures I couldn't live without, of course. We had lunch with Ginger's daughter, Jenn at a wonderful eating place called Janet's. The food was delicious and the cookies even better. After lunch we shopped at a couple more antique stores and then Sandra and I headed back home. We had a great day with Ginger and hope to do it again soon.
My son, Nick moved to a different apartment in Washington DC this past week and I am flying up there to help him get settled in before school starts. I will be gone Aug 5 to Aug 17. I hope to visit some of the museums and do some other fun things while I am there.

Hope everyone has a great rest of the weekend. Do something fun and keep smiling...makes people wonder what your up to.....
